"A righteous man takes care of the needs of his animals..." (Proverbs 10:12)

Welcome to The Animal Shelter of Texas County

Have you ever heard the mournful cry of an abandoned puppy or kitten?

Your heart probably sank thinking about a small, defenseless animal all alone in the cold. What can you do? How can you help? What happens to the hundreds of innocent animals – just like the one you heard – that are abandoned every year because they are simply unwanted? Who answers their cry for help?

Local municipal shelters typically pick up abandoned and homeless animals and the most critical five days of their life begins. These shelters do the best they can at full capacity and with limited resources but each animal is up against a fateful timeline.

If these animals are not claimed or adopted within five days, most will be euthanized because there just isn’t enough room or anywhere to go. And we can’t let that happen.

How is The Animal Shelter of Texas County (TASTC) going to make a difference?

Since May 2006, TASTC has assisted in over ONE-THOUSAND animal rescues and adoptions, of which 600 have been documented and followed up. Up to this point, we have accomplished this without an adequate facility. Up to this point, we  have been able to accomplish this by renting kennel space from area veterinarians offices.  TASTC IS a Voice for the animals. To rescue, nurture and adopt animals in need is the driving force in our daily efforts to save the lives of innocent dogs, cats, horses, puppies, and kittens.

Animals with health issues or injuries stand even less of a chance in some shelters and are often considered lost causes. Not at TASTC!

TASTC travels to all areas in Texas County to save the lives of pets every week. Pets that are in a race against the clock for life. We save these animals from almost certain death, seek the medical attention they need, and after they are given a clean bill of health from a Vet, we take the time to find the animal a loving, permanent home where they will be given the love and attention they deserve.

How can you help?

A 20-acre site situated east of Houston on Highway 17 is the home of TASTC. We are in need of funds to complete the housing needed to provide shelter for the homeless animals of Texas County. At this time we have only a limited number of kennels available for dogs and cats.  Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated. Donation receipts will be provided for tax purposes.

Volunteers are vital and play an important part in the operation of our non-for –profit organization.  Call us at 967-0700 to see how you can become a Voice for the Animals!

Donations of bedding, kennels, dog runs, medical supplies, and food are needed. Call today for a location to drop off these items.

By sending your donation today, you will be saying that it is not acceptable to leave an innocent animal cold, hungry and alone.
